Trauma is defined as a singular event that is deeply distressing or disturbing experience such as forms of abuse and/or neglect. Complex trauma is experiencing that trauma repeatedly.  Like a physical cut causes a physical hurt, trauma cause hurt to our heart. Trauma that goes un-dealt with is like living with an open wound on your heart.  Children who have experienced trauma often find it hard to trust loving adults in their lives resulting in perplexing behaviors.

Our Top Recommendation:

We are BIG fans of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®).

Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI uses Empowering Principles to address physical and environmental needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs and engagement, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors.

While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI is connection.
